Braving icy cold conditions, Christmas was celebrated by all Christians in Manipur with great joy like in other parts of the globe.
The toll of church bells echoed not only in the hills but also in the valley areas for the whole of Saturday's night.
Gripping cold waves have swept across the state this winter.
Temperature dropped as low as 2� Celsius yesterday which meteorological officials have observed as the lowest so far in this season.
Day time temperature was around 20� Celsius yesterday.
Despite the severe cold, villagers in their hundreds thronged village churches offering prayers and and conducting mass to celebrate the birth of Christ.

It was just not Christians who celebrated Christmas but many people belonging to different religions celebrated Christmas with Christmas messages, also observing the theme of cakes and gifts on Christmas trees, and gifts from Santa Claus.
Christains in Manipur, observed the main function of Christmas for two days, December 24 and 25.Prayers, reading of Gospels, feasts, singing of hymns, lectures on Christ, sports meets etc.
formed the major part of the festivities.
In some villages where inhabitants are well to do, the celebration will continue till January 1, New Years day.
Reports coming in from the hill districts in the state where the majority of Manipur's Christians live, Christmas was celebrated with deep fervour.
In Tamenglong district both Baptists and Catholics celebrated the day joyously.
All shops and markets were closed for the last two days.
Fervent Christians had been singing Christmas carols for days and nights and some churches had served community meals.
Troops of 11 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Red Shield Division donated ' 5000 as a gift to the chairman of Longkaiphun village, Tamenglong district.
The battalion also gifted sports materials to the villagers of Longkaiphun and Nungba subdivision in the same district.
The battalion further extended help to the Hindi Baptist Church in the district by providing them a generator for Christmas.
The AR said, their endeavour was to bring peace and prosperity in Tamenglong.
