Imphal, September 11 2017:
The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has decried that many non-local people are contesting the Panchayat election scheduled on October 7 .
Speaking to media persons at their Sega Road, Konjeng Hazari Leikai office today, KSA president Moirangthem Lakshman remarked that non-local people have a malicious intention to take over the State's political reins as indicated by the emergence of so many non-local candidates .
Non-local people have already taken control of the State's economy and many other aspects of life, he said .
The emergence of so many non-local candidates at a time when KSA has been spearheading mass movement demanding reservation of eight Assembly segments for indigenous people and deletion of all non-local people from the State's electoral roll is a matter of serious concern .
He then urged all the people to socially boycott the non-local candidates and refrain from casting votes in favour of them .
Citing data collected from different DCs, Lakshman said that one non-local individual has been contesting for Hilghat Zilla Parishad of Jiribam while two other non-local candidates are in the fray in Borobekra Zilla Parishad .
Altogether seven non-local people have been contesting in three Wards of Borobekra Gram Panchayat .
Five other non-local candidates have been vying for two Wards of Jakuradhor Gram Panchayat of Jiribam .
In Laltingkhal GP, one non-local candidate has been contesting for the post of Pradhan while nine non-local candidates have been vying for three Wards .
In Kanglatongbi GP, one Pradhan candidate and 13 candidates for five Ward Members are non-local people .
Likewise, altogether 14 non-local people are contesting for the post of Ward Members in Serou GP.
Two non-local candidates are contesting in Waiton GP for the post of Ward Members while eight non-local people have been vying for the post of Ward Members at Makeng Dolaithabi GP, Lakshman elucidated .
To a query, he maintained that the KSA's movement has not been suspended but its direction has been changed at the assurance of the Chief Minister .
The agitation will go on until the demands are fulfilled and the State Government is expected to fulfil the same demands at the earliest, he asserted .
Earlier, the Chief Minister assured a KSA delegation that an all-party meeting would be convened to discuss the demand of reserving all the 60 Assembly segments for indigenous people in addition to seeking a detailed report from the DCs about deletion of non-local people from the State's electoral roll within three months.
