Kakching, October 08 2023: In a mark of respect to all bravehearts of Manipur from the distant to the recent past, the All Kakching Students' Union (AKSU) offered Langban Heisoi Chara Tamba at Kwakpa Iren (Sengmai River) to pay homage to the martyrs.

The ceremony was attended by students from Kakching and surrounding areas, social activists, members of JNGVO, KBBWA, Langsai Thouna, Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup and representatives of numerous CSOs.

The gathering paid a floral tribute to the brave Manipuri martyrs along with the offering of ritualistic prayers as per the customs of Langban Heisoi Chara Tamba ceremony.

In this connection, N Amarjhonson, secretary, AKSU said that the territorial integrity of Manipur has been challenged in many chapters of the State's history.

"Our forefathers have overcome every single challenge by fighting and laying down their lives for Manipur in numerous battlefields", he said.

Despite being aware of imminent defeat in the 1891 Anglo Manipuri War, bravehearts like Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Pukhrambam Kajao and many others stood firm for Manipur and sacrificed their lives.

Once again in 2001, eighteen brave souls laid down their lives for the territorial integrity of the State during the Great June Uprising (June 18) and safeguarded the integrity of Manipur, he recalled.

In the present conflict, Kuki militants are challenging the integrity of Manipur and launching attacks on Meiteis by burning down their houses and committing various atrocities, he said.

Referring to those who have lost their lives, he said that the Langban Heisoi Chara Tamba has been offered in honour of the brave martyrs of the ongoing conflict.
