Imphal, October 21 2023:
The Lukmai Sellup has served an ultimatum to the Government to trace and recover the mortal remains of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi who purportedly have been murdered by Kukis on or before November 5 .
Speaking to the media at Khwairamband Keithel today, general secretary of Lukmai Sellup Asem Nirmala said that the women of the State will take up the task of searching the bodies of the two students who went missing on July 6 if the Government fail to deliver their demand within the stipulated time frame.
Asking if the Government won't be able to hand over the bodies of Hemanjit and Linthoingambi to the people, Nirmala reiterated that the women at Khwairamband Keithel and other parts of the State will take a strong resolution and trace the bodies themselves if their demand is not entertained.
She further asked how the CBI has been investigating the case if they cannot get any lead on where the bodies might be till now even after arresting some of the accused.
The Government should take full responsibility for all eventuality if they fail to trace and hand over the bodies of the two students by November 5, she cautioned.
She went on to state that the bodies of Kuki people lying at morgues in Imphal must be given to their respective families only after there is some consensus on exchange of bodies between the two sides.
Accusing the Central and State force of being biased towards meira paibis, she asked who gave the order to use brute force against women protesters.
Police and CAPF can't even fire tear gas shells at Moreh and other hill districts but flex their muscle in the valley, she said and demanded clarification from the Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh over the conduct of security forces.
Meanwhile, vice president of Lukmai Sellup Khongbantabam Leirentombi appealed to all the people in Manipur to not hold any festivity until all the displaced people return to their native places and there is normalcy in the State.
