NPF holds general convention

The Central Headquarters of Naga People's Front (NPF), Kohima, Nagaland, convened a general convention to celebrate its 61st foundation day at the Capital Cultural Hall wherein the party reaffirmed stand and commitment for early solution to the Indo-Naga political issue.
In his presidential address, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu, the outgoing president, emphasised the historical context of NPF's formation in 1963.He recounted how the Naga people had rejected the first and second general elections of India in 1952 and 1957 .
However, the signing of the 16-point memorandum between the Government of India and the Naga People's Convention in 1960 led to the establishment of an interim government in Nagaland.
Dr Shurhozelie stated, "This party was formed with a purpose and strong commitment to pave the way for upholding the rights of the Naga people through the democratic process".
He further affirmed that NPF remains the primary regional party representing the identity and aspirations of Naga people, deeply rooted in Naga society and history.
The party is dedicated to safeguarding, preserving, and promoting the socio-political identity, rights, and privileges of the Naga people.
He also said that NPF would persist as a guiding force, unwavering in its mission to facilitate an early political settlement for the Indo-Naga issue.
The party's vision is for a settlement that is acceptable, honourable, and inclusive, in line with its name, which signifies its commitment to the people.
MLA Awangbow Newmai from Manipur, acknowledged Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu as the "Founding Father of NPF, Manipur" for launching the party in the state.
He praised NPF as one of the nation's strongest parties, one that has steadfastly adhered to its principles, ideology, and promises.
Awangbow Newmai declared the unwavering support of NPF Manipur Unit to the NPF Central Headquarters.
He lauded the determination of the two NPF MLAs from Nagaland in the face of challenges, urging party members not to be disheartened by their number in the Nagaland state assembly.
He expressed confidence that the NPF would return to power and lead in Nagaland once again.
MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Neinu, who is also a leader of NPFLP, NLA, called for wholehearted support for the new president of NPF Central Headquarters.
He stressed the importance of strong leadership for the party's growth and survival, highlighting that good leaders unite people, while bad leaders divide the party.
The convention and foundation day celebration drew over 2000 delegates from Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Apong Pongener Ao was elected as the new president of NPF Central Headquarters.
He along with more than 70 new executive members pledged to work in accordance with the party 's principles and for the welfare of Naga people.
