New Delhi, September 02 2010:
Unhappy and utterly disgusted with the State Govt's mismanagement over the construction/upgradation of the one and only of its kind in the world, the age old and historic Ima Keithel, run only by women, a five member team of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Vendors Welfare Association, Manipur and Road Side Vendors Welfare Association, Khwairamband Keithel , addressed the media today at Press Club of India in New Delhi.
A memorandum requesting the Prime Minister's intervention to redress their grievances was submitted to the PMO's office, with a copy to the State Chief Minister.

In a statement issued to the media here today, the Imas said that the Govt till date has not made public the blue print of the construction project including the total number of sheds and seats to be constructed, allocation plan, amenities and other facilities.
Addressing the media, president of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Vendors' Welfare Association, L Memma Devi said that after being shifted to a temporary market shed, their licences were changed into temporary licence with the trade also being changed.
She also alleged that the list which had been in existence and maintain by them were manipulated.
Her own permanent licence permit register under Jewellery was changed into Temporary and trade name 'Kon' Utensil.
The Ima also informed that over 500 permanent licence holders are not getting their due space in the new market, and that the Ima vendors are apprehensive of what might possibly happen once the new market is completed.
She also recalled that there had been many instances of confrontations with security forces and conflicts amongst vendors in the temporary market in and around the District hospital, Imphal.
Another Ima vendor added "during all these years we have been paying taxes, but we are being herded chased here and there like cattles" .
The women vendors demanded that original licence holders be allocated seats with effect from the day of the inauguration.
The Association has also demanded that seat allocation and arrangement should be carried out by the State Government in consultation and involvement of the representatives of the Ima Keithel.
The Imas lamented that repeated appeals to the State Govt for a discussion have not been responded.
