A Superintending Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has been taken into captivity by suspected militants while whereabouts of the two officials of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) abducted from Senapati are yet to be traced out.
Police, early today, launched an operation at Thangmeiband Khomdram Shellungba Leikai and Lallambung Makhong of Imphal west district in a bid to rescue the kidnapped SE, identified as Laishram Swamikanta of Kwakeithel Ningthemkol.
The SE was kidnapped by some cadres suspected to belong to an underground group yesterday morning from Chingamakha area where he went to drop his children to a private tuition centre.
Police suspect the kidnapping is related with monetary demands.
As a follow up action to the abduction of the engineer, Imphal West Police Commandos conducted search operations at Thangmeiband Khomdram Shellungba Leikai and Lallambung Makhong in the early hours of today.
The house to house search was conducted under the supervision of Imphal West SDPO, Krishnatombi after keeping the areas cordoned off the whole night.
The operations started at 3.30 am and went on till 11 am.
No arrest or rounding up of any suspect behind the kidnapping was made during the search operations.
On the other hand, a highly reliable source said that the two staff members of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) who were abducted by a militant group were connected to a monetary demand of Rs two lakh.
Their whereabouts are yet to be traced.
Mention may be made that Laishram Ibomcha of Thambalkhong in Imphal east district and Elangbam Pishak of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai in Thoubal district were abducted by unidentified gunmen at Senapati Bazar at 2.15 pm of Tuesday while they were waiting to catch a bus for Imphal.
