First twelve hours of the seventy-two hour NH-36 and NH-39 blockade, enforced by a conglomeration of various Karbi bodies, was marked by wide scale hostility.
Incidents of stone pelting and arson occurred in several places.
Violent incident took place in NH 39, at around 4 a.m., when a large number of picketers, manning the stretch of NH- 39 between Gorampani and Nambor, attacked more than six Night buses bound for Dimapur and Imphal with volley of stones and other flying objects, smashing windshields and windowpanes.
Number of commuters including women and children sustained severe injuries.
One of the victim, on condition of anonymity, told this reporter over phone from Dimapur that the driver of the bus he was traveling did not stop under attack.
"He kept on pulling the bus amidst rain of stone and other flying missiles, amid shuttered windshield, the driver, consuming compound injury kept on driving, until reaching safety of Dimapur," the victim said.
However, no violent incidents occurred in Hamren sub-division.
Similar incident of attack on passenger buses and public carriers took place in Dengaon, locality of Diphu subdivision.
In NH-36, picketers pelted stone on numbers of vehicles inflicting injury on the commuters.
The worst incident took place near Deopani locality along NH-39 at around 6 a.m., when a Dimapur bound truck, carrying seventy pigs, was set on fire by the picketers.
