Leimaram comes under attack, heavy gunfight ensues

Imphal/Moirang, January 28 2024:
A heavy gunfight broke out at Leimaram under Nambol police station today follo-wing an attack by Kuki militants and their associates.
The gunfight ensued after the volunteers guarding the village returned fires.
After a short while, a team of State forces and Bishnupur commandos arrived at the spot and joined the battle against the Kuki militants.
The firing didn't stop till about 7.30 pm though there were brief lulls every now and then.
There is no report of any injuries on the side of village volunteers and State forces for now.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, a local said that the Kuki militants launched the offensive from near the foothills of Tingkai Khunou under Saitu-Gamphazol Sub Division of Kangpokpi at around 3.30 pm by firing indiscriminately.
Our Moirang correspondent, meanwhile, reported that the attack was carried out from Kharam Kom and Idhijang of Kangpokpi using sophisticated weapons.
Devashore, a local said that Leimaram was attacked a couple of times by Kuki militants in the past too.
He said that personnel of Gorkha Regiment are deployed near the area from where the Kuki militants launched the attack.
An ambulance of the Indian Red Cross Society has also rushed to the site.
On the other hand, Kuki militants attacked a Meitei village at Sanjenlok under Sagolmang police station in Imphal East early morning today.
The attack was launched by the Kuki militants from Mark hill range.
Reliable sources said the Kuki militants came down from the hill range and fired several rounds of bullets toward the Sanjenlok village.
The village volunteers who were guarding the village also retaliated by firing some rounds of bullets using licensed guns.
After receiving retaliatory fire, the Kuki militants retreated to the hill range.
The gun fight lasted a few minutes.
There is no report of any injury in the attack.
