Kakching, September 11 2023:
Committee for Peace and Social Harmony (CPSH), Kakching provided financial assistance to the families of Yengkhom Jiten of Kakching Chumnang Leikai and Soibam Naoba of Salungpham Maning Leikai, who were killed in firing by Assam Rifles at Leimangai Chingjin near Pallel, and Senjam Kuber of Tezpur Awang Leikai, who is fighting for his life after being wounded severely in the incident.
The committee members visited the homes of the deceased and injured civilians on Monday and handed over the assistance.
Interacting with the media, committee member Pukhrambam Somarendra said that the Meetei people of Pallel rushed to Assam Rifles seeking protection after Kuki militants opened fire towards the residential areas of Pallel.
Instead of providing protection, the personnel posted at 26th Sector Assam Rifles not only baton charged the public but also used live bullets, rubber bullets, teargas shells and smoke bombs to chase them.
In the incident, Yengkhom Jiten and Soibam Naoba died while several others were injured.
Questioning the motive of Assam Rifles and their sense of responsibility, he demanded the government to remove Assam Rifles from the state.
As the state continues to face challenges and threat to its territorial integrity, the death of Jiten and Naoba will be remembered forever and will encourage the public to face any challenges ahead.
The committee's assistance is a simple gesture of sharing the pain and grief of the bereaved families in their tough times, he added.
On the other hand, Hayel Young Popular Club (HYPC), Imphal West and Uchiwa Gram Panchayat Pradhan Heikrujam Indrajit also provided financial assistance to Ningthoujam Leishemba son of N Premjit of Hayel Sorok Karong, who was injured in the Pallel incident.
In a statement, HYPC conveyed its prayer for early recovery of Leishemba and also drew attention of the Centre and state government to restore peace in the state at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Tezpur Popular Club, Kakching strongly condemned Assam Rifles for using excessive force against civilians in the Pallel incident, in which a local resident Senjam Kuber was severely wounded and is currently fighting for his life in hospital.
A statement of the club also conveyed its prayer for early recovery of the injured youth.
