Opposition demands suspension of Kuki MLAs

Imphal, October 27 2023: Ten opposition parties in the state have demanded the government to suspend the 10 Kuki MLAs including two ministers for raising separate administration demand.

The parties also charged BJP of playing blame game despite BJP leaders' remark on external extremists' hands behind the crisis in the state.

Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on CPI Manipur State Council leader L Sotinkumar said that RSS chief Mohan Bhagat had expressed his opinion on involvement of foreign extremists behind the Manipur crisis.

Similarly, the union home minister had also stated that there is involvement of militant groups from neighbouring country behind the crisis.

Despite such emerging facts and involvement of militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, the government is not taking up any concrete measures.

Today, displaced people of the state are unable to return to their homes.

Meetei community has no longer access to the two national highways as well as Moreh, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts.

Even though the Centre sent around 70,000 central security forces, there is no solution yet.

Instead of protecting the lives and properties of the public and facilitating resettlement of the displaced people, the government machineries are more focused on firing tear gas, pellets and baton charge student protestors in the valley.

Both the parliament and state assembly remain silent on the matter, he said while asking if the state cabinet had taken any resolution to uphold the territory of the state.

He also alleged the government of diverting the public attention from the issue by laying foundation stones and inaugurating some projects.

The lead role played by the 10 Kuki MLAs, seven of whom belong to BJP, behind the separate administration demand is well-known to the public.

Yet, BJP is not taking up any actions against them.

The 10 Kuki MLAs should be suspended or dismissed from the state assembly for their attempt to disintegrate the state, he said.

Sotinkumar further questioned the motive of the Central government on its delay in initiating dialogue to restore peace.

Even after six month, the Central government has not initiated any peace process.

Instead, BJP is playing blame game, which is very unfortunate, he said and also informed that the 10 opposition parties have been demanding a special assembly session to adopt a resolution to safeguard the territorial integrity of the state.

CPI-M state secretary Kshetrimayum Shanta said that a general council committee has been formed by the 10 political parties to launch campaign against the misdeeds of BJP.

Representatives of AP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI-M, INC, JD-U, NCP, RSP and SS (UBT) also attended the press meet.
