Sit-in protests continue at Heirok, Khangabok

Thoubal, June 29 2023: Under the supervision of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a sit-in protest was taken out today at Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai Community Hall demanding resignation of the incumbent Chief Minister who can no longer safeguard the lives and properties of the people.

The protest was organised by Kangleipak Women's Welfare Association (KWWA) and Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi Lup.

Demanding withdrawal of the SoO pact, participating protestors by the name of Gunamani Khundongbam and Fajabi Elangbam, members, KWWA asserted that the State Government has failed to control the violence perpetrated by the Kuki militants.

Demanding for the Chief Minister's resignation, they decried the call raised for a separate administration while urging for implementation of NRC in Manipur and upholding the territorial integrity of the State.

The protestors also observed two minutes in silence to honour those who have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict.

Separately, womenfolk of Khangabok Part II staged a sit-in protest at Khangabok Part II Mayai Leikai Lai Lam Thokpham Community Hall against separate administration and demanding withdrawal of SoO pact and implementation of NRC in Manipur.

The protest was organised by Lai Lam Thokpham Youth's Development Club (LLYDC), Khangabok Part II in association of local meira paibis.

Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Thokchom (Ongbi) Nicky Devi expressed grief at the lack of concrete measures taken up to quell the violence from the side of the Central Government even as the conflict enters the 58th day.

Saying this, she appealed for speedy resolution of the ongoing crisis.

She further shared that meira paibis of Khangabok Part I, II and III are taking turns to closely monitor the commuters along the national highway every night.
