Imphal, September 25 2023:
While disclosing that Congress party has decided to cooperate with the call of Youth of Manipur (YOM), MPCC spokesperson Ningombam Bhupenda has said that chief minister N Biren Singh should take the initiative to meet PM Modi.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan on Monday, Bhupenda said Congress party takes seriously the call of YOM upon all MLAs to visit New Delhi to meet Prime Minister and bring an end to the present crisis.
Accordingly, Congress MLAs and party leaders discussed YOM's call threadbare and decided to cooperate in the best possible way.
According to Bhupenda, the unrest in Manipur is in the fifth month but there has been no report of the PMO enquiring state CM about the violence.
This indicates that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not even telephone the state's CM since the violence broke out.
Opposition parties including Congress camped in New Delhi for 15 days to meet Prime Minister but no appointment was given.
Ruling MLAs led by speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly are now camping in New Delhi to meet Prime Minister but there is no report of securing appointment as of Monday evening, Bhupenda said and urged chief minister N Biren Singh to take the initiative to meet the PM.
He also said that Congress MLAs are ready to visit New Delhi if CM takes up process to meet PM Modi.
