Death of ZUF cadre condoled, organizations call for peace

The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has condoled the demise of its cadre 'lance corporal Gaingamlung Gonmei who was killed in an alleged attack of NSCN-IM at Charoi Chakotlong( Kaluang Part-I), yesterday.
In a statement, the ZUF said that the contribution of Gaingamlung Gonmei @ David s/o Meihuandai Gonmei of Namduanjang Village Noney district to the Zeliangrong community will always be cherished and inscribed with golden ink in the pages of Zeliangrong history.
"We also convey our gratitude and deep appreciation to the Village authorities, team of AZSU, ZSUM, ZSULA, RNSOM and all other organizations and individuals for the prompt humanitarian and compassionate service rendered to the bereaved family and relatives," it added.
Meanwhile, the All Zeliangrong Students' Union - Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AZSU-AMN) and Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) strongly condemned the killing of ZUF cadre lance corporal Gaingamlung Gonmei by NSCN-IM yesterday and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
AZSU and ZSUM in a joint press statement appealed to different underground groups to put an end to the culture of bloodshed within the family of Naga.
Both the bodies expressed anguish over continued bloodshed in Zeliangrong areas despite repeated appeals to shun violence to various underground groups operating in the Zeliangrong areas.
The Khunbu, the Khullak, the Peidai (Customary Court) and the general public of Chakanlong (Charoichagotlong) village deplored the violent incident that took place between two armed groups yesterday afternoon at Phoibut, Chakanlong Part-I in Noney district which led to the death of Gaingamlung Gonmei.
A joint press statement of the above authorities said that the general public of Chakanlong are peace loving citizens and "we don't encourage any form of violence and internecine killing amongst the Naga brothers and armed groups" .
It also appealed to all the "armed outfits/organizations" to maintain peace and tranquility through dialogue to resolve their differences and bring amicable understanding rather than resorting to violent activities.
