1st Sub-Jr Boys' Volleyball meet : Thrilling matches mark day

Imphal, February 21 2014 : Thrilling matches marked the day at the 1st Sub-Junior Boys' Volleyball Tournament as of the four matches played today, two matches were stretched to five sets each, one to four sets while the fourth match was decided in straight set.

In a Group A match played between UC Leiphrakpam and YYC, the match went the whole way to five sets with UC emerging the winner.

Fortunes swung each way as the players matched each other in every department of the game, but the resilience and spirit of the players from UC finally came to the fore to decide the match in their favour.

The scoreline which went the full stretch read as 25-17, 21-25, 25-22, 22-25 and 15-10 .

In a Group B match, SA Kongba came back from a set down to win the match against Galaxy Yurembam in four sets.

Here too the two teams were evenly matched, but it was the better co-ordination between the players of SA Kongba that saw them emerge the winner with the scoreline reading as 23-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-12 .

In another Group B match, the game went the whole way to five sets, with the spectators getting their due.

Here too it was SA Kongba again which displayed better nerves and stamina to emerge the winner against a determined NYVA, Naorem.

Down in the first set, the players from Kongba fought back bravely to emerge winner with a scoreline of 23-25, 25-14, 32-34, 25-18 and 15-7 .

The two teams were evenly matched, coming up with some jaw dropping loops and drops and fought for each point with equal determination.

In the fourth match of the day, Galaxy Yurembam managed to despatched SUWC, Irengbam in straight set.

The straight set win however did not reflect the real spirit in which the match was played as the players from Galaxy, Yurembam had to fight for each point with the SUWC players not giving them any leeway.

However it was better skill and understanding that ultimately proved to be the deciding factor as Galaxy Yurembam won by a score line of 25-22, 25-22, 25-22 .

The semi final will be played between IGO and SA Kongba.

The tournament is being organised by Sports Academy Wangkhei Kongba and is being held at Soudangpung Lampak, Wangkhei Kongba.
