Punjabi traders' murder: Moreh bandh called off, CM assures justice

The bandh and sealing of Indo-Myanmar border at Moreh town over the murder of two Punjabi traders have been called off following talks between State Government and community leaders of Moreh today.
Talking to media persons, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi strongly condemned the murder of two Punjabi traders Sanvender Singh and Dhaljeet Singh and announced an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakhs each to the victims' family members.
He also assured to conduct proper investigation into the killing.
Condemning the murder, the public and community leaders of Moreh carried out a mass rally in the border town starting from the Gurudwara.
Several placards which read as "Respect Human Rights", "Why Doesn't Myanmar Respect Human Rights", "Do Friends Kill Friends", "We condemn Myanmar's Act", "Myanmar Should Respect Internal Laws", etc.
were held by the protestors during the rally.

As per the instruction of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, a team of State Government comprising Commerce and Industries Govindas Konthoujam, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, MLA DK Korungthang and Chandel ADC Lukhosei Zou arrived at Moreh at around 10 am and met with the community leaders at the Gurudwara.
The Ministerial team conveyed the condemnation and assurances of Chief Minister Ibobi to the public present there.
An ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakhs each was announced to the victims' family members.
Later, the community leaders of Moreh again met the Ministerial team at the Inspection Bungalow of Moreh Police.
Condemnations and grievances were showered upon the Ministers and MLAs by the public and leaders of Moreh.
Responding to the public, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas said that the gruesome incident would be reported to the Indian Embassy in Myanmar and also to the Myanmarese Embassy in New Delhi.
An effective course of action would be taken up after consultation with the Chief Minister, he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy CM Gaikhangam met the victims' family members and leaders of Sikh community at JNIMS Mortuary.
The two top leaders assured the family members that proper investigation would be conducted to find out the culprits and take up necessary action.
National Council Member of BJP Yanglet Haokip also condemned the brutal murder of two Punjabi traders, who went missing from Tamu town in Myanmar but later found murdered within the Indian territories at Jangnomphai Village in Chandel district yesterday.
