Imphal, February 21 2014 :
Despite a brilliant 49 runs off 51 balls from Bikramjit, Model Club went down to NAPSA by 7 wickets in a nail biting finish in the 2nd T-20 Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament today.
Evenly matched, but it was the contributions from the front line batsmen of NAPSA which ultimately decided the match in their favour.
On winning the toss, Model Club opted to bat and riding on a brilliant 49 runs off 51 balls from Bikramjit managed to put up 103 runs for the loss of 8 wickets on the score board.
However other than Bikramjit, the other batsmen could not really rise to the occasion, failing to convert their good start to huge scores.
Homeshor did well in starting well but fell for 11 runs off only 14 balls, while going for a big hit.
Cherish too fell in a similar way, failing to convert his good start to fall for 11 runs off 14 balls followed by Gourachandra with 11 runs off 24 balls.
Their contributions however helped the team, Model Club, to put a decent total of 103 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
For NAPSA, all the strike bowlers chipped in with their mite, with Ranjit leading the way with 2 wickets followed by Bhogen, Roni and Ratan with one wicket each.
Set a decent target of 104, the frontline batsmen of NAPSA, managed to read the complexion of the match and managed to chip in with valuable runs, not really going in for the big hits and not sparing any loose balls that came their way.
Roni led the way with a breezy 30 runs off 33 balls and he was ably assisted by Bhogendra who scored 17 runs off 19 balls followed by Ratan with 17 runs off 26 balls and Shanta with 19 runs of 27 balls for the loss of three wickets.
For Model Club, Homeshor and Chaoba scalped one wicket each.
Digging in their bats, the batsmen of NAPSA kept their cool and managed to blunt the attack of Model Club and keep the score board ticking with some fine running between the wickets.
The patient approach coupled with the frontline batsmen contributing collectively, paved the win for NAPSA as they managed to notch up a total of 106 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 19.2 overs.
For his contribution with the bat at 30 runs and for picking up one crucial wicket, Roni of NAPSA bagged the man of the match award.
In tomorrow's match, CHAMP will take on UCC.
The tournament is being organised by the Manipur Veteran Cricket Association, which is affiliated to the Board of Veteran Cricket of India.
This was the second match of the T-20 version of the tournament being played at Langthabal Public ground.
