Imphal, February 21 2014 :
The farmers of the State would get utmost benefits if the Agricultural Produce Market Act (APMA) is enacted by the State Government, an agricultural expert associated with Manipur Small Farmers' Agri Business Consortium told Hueiyen Lanpao.
The State Government is planning to introduce the Agricultural Produce Market Bill in the State Legislative Assembly.
However, the bill would take a little longer to get enacted in the State as it would require the assent of the President of India.
The farmers would get myriad benefits if this Act is passed in the State, the expert noted.
According to the APMA, the farmers would have great opportunities to market their produces at good prices without involvement of any middlemen.
There would also be provisions for setting up market places for selling different agricultural produces.
The prices of the agricultural produces would be fixed by the Agricultural Produce Market Committee from time to time to benefit the farmers, the expert said.
Recently, a team from Institute of Agricultural Marketing, Jaipur visited various places of the State to study the prospects of agricultural markets.
The team also interacted with the farmers and agriculturalists
of the State.
