XI-Star SU, AKSA post home wins as 26th Winners' Cup kicks off

Imphal, November 26 2022: XI-Star Sporting Union, Akampat and AKSA-Kwakta sealed home wins today as the 26th Thangjam Birachandra-Maipakpi Memorial Winners' Cup kick off under the aegis of the All Manipur Football Association.

In the first match of the double legged tournament, 10-man XLStar SU clinched a 2-0 win over CHARLAO FC-Ukhrul at their home ground (Akampat ground) .

CHARLAO FC managed to hold off the home team from taking the lead in the opening half but Nameirakpam Santanu succeeded in penetrating their defence set up and gave the home team the headway after 61 minutes.

The visitors, despite having numerical superiority after Laishram Bishal of the home team was sent off with double booking in the 65th minute, conceded another goal 4 minutes into the stoppage as Irungbam Aboy converted a fine chance.

X-I Star will visit CHARLAO FC at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong on November 29 .

Elsewhere at Kwakta ground.

All Kwakta Sports Association (AKSA) sealed a 3-2 thrilling home win against visiting Gampum Youth Club (GYC), Saikul.

AKSA, buoyed by the home crowd, raced to a 2-0 first half lead thanks to goals from Md Rasid (25') and Md Asif (30').The Saikul outfit however pulled back a goal in the 77th minute through Thangminlen Dimngel before AKSA rounded off their scoring 2 minutes into the stoppage time (90+2') through Md Arshad.

GYC however scored another in the next minute through Laljagao Guite to narrow down the margin.

The reverse fixture is slated on November 29 .
