Manipur post empathic wins in girls' U-17, U-19 football; bag 2 gold in wrestling and 1 gold in Judo

Imphal, January 11 2019:
Manipur U-17 and U-21 girls' teams wreaked havoc to notch up emphatic wins against their respective rivals while U-21 boys went down 0-1 to Goa in 2nd Khelo India Youth Games Football Championship which is currently underway at Pune, Maharashtra.
Manipur's gold rush continued as the day saw 2 gold and 1 bronze medal in weightlifting and 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in Judo.
U-21 girls football
Trebles from Daya and Sanathokpi and doubles from Sultana and Borkeina helped Manipur crush Jharkhand 12-0 in the U-21 women's clash staged today.
Daya opened Manipur's goal account early in the 7th minute thanks to an assist from Sultana and went on to score 2 more goals in the 20th and the 28th minute.
Sultana doubled the lead 5 minutes latter before she also completed her double in the 30th minute with the assistance of Daya on both the occasion.
Sanathokpi got the third goal for Manipur and her first in the 16th minute and scored two more goals in the 67th and the 74th minute of the match with able assistance from Sultana and Babysana.
Anjali added a goal in the 19th minute to make it 4-0 while Ranjibala also managed the single through assistance from Babysana in the 41st minute of the match.
Borkeina also found her name on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute as Manipur kept ticking the scoreline before hammering the final nail in the coffin in the 88th minute and completed the 12-0 demolition of Jharkhand.
The team will face Maharashtra next on January 13 .
U-17 girls football
The State's U-17 team had more or less similar outing as they hammered Chandigarh 10-1 after enjoying a 4-0 lead in the first half.
U Pushparani shone in the match scoring two goals each half including the opener in the 5 th minute and another in the 30th minute.
She had her third in the 48th minute and the fourth in the 89th minute.
L Bibicha displayed a fine show hitting the target thrice with two goals (22', 28', 50') coming up in the first half that led to a 4-0 lead.
N Priyanka was also a constant threat to the Chandigarh side and managed a quick double (60', 63') before M Rejiya rounded off the scoring during the stoppage time (90+2') .
The lone goal of the Chandigarh side was pulled off via a spot kick in the 57th minute.
Weightlifting
S Bindyarani Devi and L Sadananda Singh won a gold medal each in the weightlifting events held today while L Sunderjit was able to claim a bronze medal.
S Bindyarani won the gold medal in the U-21 girls 55 kg category lifting a total of 179 kg which include 76 kg in snatch and 103 kg in clean and jerk event.
L Sadananda Singh on the other hand clinched the gold in the U-17 boys 73 kg category event.
He lifted a total of 249 kg (109 kg in snatch and 140 kg in clean and jerk).
Sunderjit settled for the bronze medal making it a total of 252 kg (107 kg in snatch and 145 kg in clean and jerk) in the boys U-21 73 kg category competition.
Judo
Thangjam Tababi won a gold medal for Manipur in the -52 kg judo event while L Nganthoi (-52 kg) and Th Abungcha (-66 kg) settled with a silver medal each today.
RK Diana (-63 kg), L Chaoba (-63 kg) and L Guguria (+66 kg) added one bronze medal each to Manipur's tally.
