Kangpokpi, January 11 2019:
Kangpokpi Block Chiefs Association has expressed disappointment over the negligible released of MGNREGS wages under Kangpokpi, Champhai and Tujang Waichong Block, and warned that stringent action will be taken up if the issue is not address at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon at Kangpokpi, president of Kangpokpi Block Chiefs Association, Tilkhothang Kipgen said that earlier in June last year, the Govt had sanctioned wages for 7 (seven) men days and another 6 (six) men days in recent time which added up to a total of 13 men days under MGNREGS for 2018-19 financial year.
However, out of the sanctioned 7 men days, only 6 (six) men days was disbursed to Saikul and Saitu while Kangpokpi, Champhai and Tujang Waichong Block received only 4 (four) men days so far, he added.
He further said that despite of their humble appeal and request, nothing positive has been initiated on the part of the concerned authority so far except making excuses such as technical errors, funds constraint, etc, which has rendered the public perplex.
"We were expecting some positive response on the part of the concerned authority before Christmas and New Year that the remaining men days wages would be released considering the festive season but no positive measures was initiated till date which has deeply disappointed not only the Chiefs association but also all the concerned beneficiaries of MGNREGS", he added.
The Chiefs association also expressed apprehensive-ness that whether they would be able to receive the already sanctioned men days before the end of financial year.
Considering the alleged negligible release of wages on the part of the concerned authority and their delaying tactics, the Chiefs association urged the State Government to intervene immediately to address their grievances and appealed authority concerned not to compel the Chiefs association to take drastic steps over the issue.
It also cautioned all concerned that it will no more remain mute spectators over the issue but will take stringent action if the remaining man days (wages) are not released at the earliest.
