Maintaining that sport persons frequently face a high level of physical strain and stress, Kangabam Bijaya Chanu, president of North East Women Entrepreneurs Association (Manipur Chapter), has called for the need to provide proper nutrition to upcoming, young athletes to make them healthy and help them perform better.
"Proper nutrition is absolutely essential for achieving good health and fitness of young sports persons.
This will enhance their sporting performance and brightens their prospect for success in sporting career," Bijaya Chanu said.
She was speaking as the chief guest of the closing ceremony of the Autumn Football Coaching Camp at KM Seth Ground in Ukhrul district's Ringui village on Saturday.
She continued that young athletes need to eat and drink proper diet to boost energy for various their physical activities.
Bijaya Chanu, nevertheless, observed that poverty being widespread in the state, majority of local sports persons are being deprived of high nutrition diet.
"I assure that I will arrange a plan from my end to provide nutrition to all the young participants of the coaching camp," she announced amidst a thunderous applause.
She further informed that the government has certain programme to provide nutritional support to sports persons.
"We will also look into this to help young athletes avail such benefits," she said.
Stressing on the need for sporting spirit, Bijaya Chanu urged the young coaching participants to develop a genuine love for football or, for that matter, any other discipline.
"If you have genuine love for a particular discipline, you can do everything to excel in it.
Only then, you will succeed in your sporting career," she exhorted the young participants.
The closing ceremony was also attended by director KVIC Manipur ASS Dewan, Meitei National general secretary RSS Sangathan Yumnam Basanta, and managing director Heeyai Construction Pvt Ltd Thangjam Logas as guests of honour.
AMFA President M Ratankumar, former International player Surkumar and social activist AC Raising attended the event as functional president and special guests respectively.
The month-long coaching camp was initiated by Vareihao FC in collaboration with Ringui Christian Youth Society (RCYS) and Ringui Mayar Ngala Long (RMNL).
It commenced on October 25 last.
