Imphal, November 27 2021:
Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam has issued a clarification in connection with his act of displaying his licensed gun in front of the residence of BJP intending candidate P Somorjit on November 25 .
Addressing a press meet held at his Chajing Mairenkhong residence on Saturday, Shyam contended that he took out his licensed gun in self-defence after the crowd became out of control, his PRO and son were beaten up and vehicles were set on fire.
He claimed that he did not use the gun to threaten the people nor fired any rounds, as alleged.
He continued that despite the attack on his people, he had no intention to vitiate the situation and returned home in the interest of the people of Langthabal AC and the party.
As such, all concerned should refrain from spreading false propaganda on the matter.
The MLA recounted that an elder brother of P Somorjit pushed down one of his elderly workers, named H Ibohal from Chajing, breaking his hand.
On receiving news of the incident, his (Shyam) son and PRO were in the midst of taking the injured to RIMS, when an Activa cut the path of their vehicle leading to a minor collision.
However, the sympathisers of P Somorjit pounced upon the PRO and other occupants in the vehicle and started beating them up, in addition to causing damage to the vehicle.
"I then went to the scene and tried to deescalate the situation.
However, I was verbally abused.
Nonetheless, 3 FIRs have been lodged for restricting the movement of an elected representative, physically assault of my PRO and his team, and the attack on my worker, which left him with a broken arm.
I have been an MLA for two terms and I firmly believe that the upcoming polls will also be favourable for me.
I joined BJP for strengthening it.
As such, no one need to be envious of me", he stated.
Karam Shyam also commented on claims being circulated on social media platforms of him (Shyam) offering Rs 1 crore to P Somorjit, stating that these claims are false and malicious.
He questioned who was going to give the money and for what reason.
This is simply false propaganda meant to tarnish his reputation as an MLA; he said and urged new political entrants like Somorjit not to indulge in such cheap tricks.
