National games: Boxer Pravish Chanu reaches quarterfinals

After six consecutive days of medal rush in the ongoing 36th National Games, Manipur's campaign went into a lull on Wednesday, but the state had something to cheer about in the boxing competition.
Konthoujam Pravish Chanu made the day count by securing a quarterfinal berth in the women's category.
She beat Ritu of Chandigarh to progress to the last eight.
Manipur dropped to eighth place from sixth in medal count on Day 7 with 13 gold, five silver and 11 bronze.
The cyclists topped the state's medal count with five gold and two each of silver and bronze, followed by the archers with two gold and one each of silver and bronze.
Fencers have so far claimed one, one silver and four bronze medals while rowing team bagged one gold and one bronze.
In roller sports, Manipur finished with a gold medal, with one bronze each in wrestling and gymnastics.
