Imphal, October 05 2022:
The 4th conference of All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers' Union held on Wednesday at Rupmahal Theatre, here, passed a charter of demands, which include increasing honorarium for Mid-day meal (MDM) workers and regularisation of service of workers.
The conference was attended by 387 delegates from different parts of the state.
Other demands listed in the charter of demands are non-termination of workers after election, availing social security facility to workers and special budget for Mid-day meal workers in state budget.
In his opening remark at the conference, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Manipur secretary Ksh Shanta pointed out that the honorarium given to Mid-day meal workers in Manipur is pitiable compared to other states and hence state government should increase the state budget so that Mid-day meal workers of the state get honorarium at par with workers in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Mid-day meal in-charge of education (S) department Zone-II Phalneichong Haokip, who was one of the presidium members at the conference, acknowledged that Mid-day meal workers have been taking care of young children as their own children and providing them food.
While stating that the department has been helping Mid-day meal workers from time to time, she also assured to continue the same in the future.
The conference also appointed a 35-member executive committee for the next three years with Maibam Jamuna as president, Arambam Thoi Chanu as secretary and Kangjam Ibemcha Devi as treasurer.
The conference also selected a 7-member delegation of the union for participation in the national conference to be held from November 3 to 5 .
