Kwak Tanba rituals performed, happy tidings foretold

Titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, who is also Rajya Sabha MP, performed the annual traditional ritual of the Royal Palace commonly known as 'Kwak Tanba' at WALL community hall, Wangkhei Angom Leikai, here, Wednesday.
The ceremonial day which involves a series of rituals is performed on the 10th day of Manipuri lunar calendar every year by Uttra Shanglen of the Royal Palace (Sana Konung).
Before the rituals began, Lanching Purel of the Uttra Shanglen sought approval for conducting the rituals from the Sana Konung in the morning and the rituals were conducted by titular king in the presence of Angom Ningthou, Ningthou Pongba Tara, male and female priests, Pena Asheiba, representatives of Thang-ta Loishang and singers of Sana Pala.
Just after the titular king performed 'Kwak Tanba' ritual, Laining Purel relayed message of Kwak (crow) after seeing the direction to which the crow flew and said that there will be stability in the land and have less report of war or conflict this year.
According to Uttra Shanglen's Maichou Purel professor Kangjia Mangang, the ritual of Kwak Tanba dates back to the time of Nongada Lairen Pakhangba, who used 'Nonggoubi' bird to perform the rituals.
Nongada Lairen Pakhangba's son Khoyum Tompok replaced 'Nonggoubi' with 'Kwak' to perform the rituals and continuing the traditional rituals since then to bring peace and prosperity in the land after forcing out all evils.
The ritual ceremony was also attended by functionaries of Sanamahi Temple Board, Pandit Loishang, Govindajee Temple Board and Uttra Shanglen of the Sana Konung.
Meanwhile, Manipur Cheirap Loishang of the Sana Konung also performed 'Kwak Tanba' rituals at SICO ground, Yaiskul.
