Imphal, October 05 2022:
Demanding inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list as a form of constitutional safeguard for the community; Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) staged a sit-in protest at Pishumthong here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines, STDCM general secretary K Bhogendra remarked that the protest has completed 41 days.
The Chief Minister had raised the matter in the Assembly and had assured of pursuing the same.
Although this is appreciated, the demand is for the government to take the issue seriously and forward the recommendation for inclusion in Scheduled Tribe List to the Centre, including taking up other necessary action in this regard.
Informing that STDCM will convene a public meeting on October 13 with regard to the government's inaction, the general secretary said that all future courses of actions would be decided during the meeting.
During the sit-in, the protestors held banners and placards inscribed with slogans like 'Include Meetei/Meitei in ST List', 'Save indigenous Meetei-Meitei community', and 'Forward recommendation for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in ST List' .
