Imphal, October 05 2022:
A team of Imphal West District Transport officials carried out a drive to crack down on auto service providers picking up passengers at non-designated spots in and around Khwairamband Bazar, and fined the violators, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Imphal West District Transport Officer (DTO) Th Dinachandra has stated that all future violators will have their licenses and relevant paperwork cancelled.
On Wednesday afternoon, an official team led by the DTO carried out a drive at Samu Makhong, Maharani Thong, Jiri Parking, Wahengbam Leikai and Nagamapal area, during which those found parked illegally and picking up/dropping off passengers at non-designated spots were made to pay fine.
Speaking in this regard, DTO Th Dinanchandra re called that the Transport Department had issued numerous official notices regarding the parking spots for private and public transport service vehicles.
However, due to random parking, by some, the roads around Khwairamband Keithel are frequently congested and caused inconveniences to pedestrians.
As such, the department had been conducting drives in the past few days and made many auto and Tata Magic service providers pay fine for violating the rules.
Unfortunately, there are many who return to their old habits after the department officials wrap up the drive, thereby leading to continuation of the stalemate.
Thus, the officials are sort of in service 24 hours, he remarked.
On the other hand, the department is also facing issues due to shortage of manpower along with the traffic police.
As such, the situation will continue to be in an impasse.
Thus, the department as its last option will mark and punch a hole on the licences of the auto and Tata Magic drivers found violating the rules for the third time.
If the violators commit another violation, their licenses including that of the vehicle will be cancelled as per the provisions of the law concerned, Th Dinachandra conveyed.
