Imphal, October 05 2022:
The state government implemented the Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 to protect the land resources and arable lands of the state.
However, some people have been constructing structures, which have nothing to do with agriculture, on such arable lands.
As such, Agriculture minister Th Biswajit has asked all those concerned to stop such constructions immediately, while cautioning that the department will be initiating necessary legal action.
Addressing a press meet held at his New Secretariat Block office, here, on Wednesday, Biswajit said that the agriculture department will be preparing action plans to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a New India, improving the economy and raising the GDP of the country to a 5-trillion economy.
For this, crop competitions will be encouraged among the farmers of all the districts in the state so as to increase the yield as well as income of the farmers, for which the department has taken up the necessary steps.
Efforts have also been made to increase the focus on organic farming and natural farming in view of the changing environment, he conveyed.
The minister continued that the Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014 was passed to protect the land resources of the state and also prohibit any other activities on the arable lands other than agriculture.
But there are some who have been wasting many arable areas in violation of the act.
As such, strict action will be taken up against such people in accordance to the provisions of the Act.
Although the state cabinet had amended the Act from time to time, there continues to be unauthorised constructions on agri cultural land.
Thus, the department will be reporting these violations to the government.
If the land has to be used for other purposes, they should move forward only after fulfilling the legal formalities as the provisions of the Act.
He then appealed to all concerned to follow and support the arrangements made by the government for the sake of future generation and to improve the socio-economy of the state, for failure to do so would only invite trouble.
