Man arrested for harassing female student

Imphal, October 05 2022:
A man, who allegedly harassed/molested a female student while she was on her way to tuition on Tuesday morning, was arrested by Imphal West district police on Wednesday.
The arrested man has been identified as Haobam Ibomcha Singh (43) s/o (L) Kumar of Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai.
According to a police report, a video went viral on social media platforms - Facebook and Instagram from around 11 am on Wednesday, showing the mid-age perpetrator, who was on a two wheeler, harassing a student while she was on her way to a tuition class.
Immediately after the video went viral, a team led by additional SP (investigation unit crime against women) Ngasepam Rattana and Imphal police station OC Inspector N Ingocha along with a team of Cyber Crime Unit Imphal West started investigation.
During the investigation, it was found that the incident occurred at Keishampat Thiyam Leikai IVR on Tuesday morning.
The identity of the perpetrator was also established.
Later, a security team arrested Haobam Ibomcha from his residence and also recovered the two-wheeler (Access MN 01AD 1391) he used while committing the crime, including the clothes he wore at the time.
Ibomcha is married with kids.
Imphal PS has registered a suo moto case against Ibomcha for taking up further legal action.
It may be mentioned here that CM N Biren had uploaded Haobam Ibomcha's photo on his (CM) Facebook account after the arrest, while stating that anyone found committing such acts will not be spared and the state police will arrest the culprits without further delay.
