AR lift Nonei Winter Cup beating LYFC

10 Assam Rifles football team blanked Longmai Youth Football Club in the final of Winter Cup 2011 held at Nonei yesterday.
The match was evenly contested in the beginning with both teams getting fair chances for goal.
However, it was only in the 30th minute of the first half that Assam Rifles scored the first goal.
It was the score till half time after which both the teams came back with extra zeal to score goals and win the match.
10 Assam Rifles again scored another goals more in the 65th and 80th minutes of the match to seal a win and became the winners of cup.
The cup was organised by 10 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Loktak brigade of Red Shield Division in conjunction with the Zeliangrong Union.
This edition of Winter Cup, which is conducted every year during December at Nonei, is special as for the first time, teams from far flung places were invited to participate in the tournament.
The teams that reached the final had tough competition from other teams in the knock out stage.
Dignitaries both from civil organizations and 10 Assam Rifles witnessed the matches of the tournament, said a press release issued by PIB (DW).
The chief guest of the final match was Commandant 10 Assam Rifles, Col Ajay Sharma.
Around 2000 persons witnessed the final match held at Longmai ground.
The winning team, 10 Assam Rifles was awarded with Rs 50,000, the runner up team got Rs 20,000 and the semi finalists got Rs 5,000 as cash prize each.
Apart from these prizes best player, best goalkeeper and fair play award for the competition were also given.
The tournament was a great success and helped encourage sports in this area and to foster a bond within the people of Manipur through such events, initiated by 10 Assam Rifles, added the press release.
Zaliangrong Union and Longmai Youth Club also assisted 10 Assam Rifles in organising the event, it further added.
