In yet another case of defrauding the public, a man who claimed to be the president of the RJD State unit, Angam Haokip alias Yamkhongam Haokip of New Lambulane has disappeared with more than Rs three crores collected from over 300 beneficiaries of a purported medicinal plant/project.
On the other hand police have picked up the associate of the dupester identified as M Tongminthang Haokip.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club today afternoon, president of the Committee for Victimised Progressive Medicinal Plant Growers, H Ashok said that Angam Haokip has done the disappearing act after collecting over Rs 3 crores from 300 beneficiaries from 2009 on the assurance that schemes would be granted under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Ayush.
H Ashok said that Angam Haokip collected Rs 60 thousand each from the 300 beneficiaries under the assurance that they would be given Rs 3 lakhs each as first instalment in the joint name of two NGOs, Social Environment Rural Technology Council and Social Agricultural and Rural Development Agency.
An FIR has been lodged against Angam Haokip and a manhunt has been launched to nab him,
said Ashok.
An associate of Angam Haokip and proprietor of Medicinal Plant, Import and Export, M Tongminthang Haokip has been picked up by the police in connection with the case.
The president of the Committee has also appealed to all concerned not to be a partner in any sale and transfer of name of the assets and properties of Angam Haokip without the knowledge of Committee of Victimised Progressive Medicinal Plant Growers.
Some of the assets listed by Ashok included land measuring .156 acre at VIP Colony, Sanjenthong, .361 acre of land at Imphal East as well as another land at Pheiyeng village in Chakpikarong sub-division.
