MSCW celebrates its 5th Foundation Day

Even though it is widely claimed that women enjoys equal rights on par with male counterparts, the women of Manipur hardly get the opportunity to enjoy their rights, stated Speaker I Hemochandra.
Speaking at the 5th Foundation Day celebration of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) at its office at the DC Complex, Lamphelpat today, Hemochandra said that the women play a significant and unique role in the state as compared with the women of other states.
A woman in Manipur is a housewife, brings up the family, serves her husband and at the same time earns for the family as well.
Pointing out the difference in status between a man and a woman in this society, he said that It will take a lot of time in bringing them at an equal level.
But nevertheless, creating awareness among the general public about rights of women should never be stopped.
He urged the people to understand and cooperate with the works carried out by the Women Commission.
Assuring help from the side of the government , he asked the Commission to come up with suggestions for strengthening it.
Only when the Women Commission is strong, the women of the state will be at par with the male counterparts, he added.
Letkhogin Haokip, Commissioner, Social Welfare Department, said that the roles played by the women of the state are highly commendable.
The function was also attended by Y Ibempishak, social worker and Th Joychandra, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department as the Guest of Honours.
A Kameshwar, District Social Welfare Officer and S Meghachandra, Member Secretary, MSCW were also present as resource persons and elaborated on different topics.
