19th Winners' Cup begins : YPHU Lalambung, FC Zalen win

Young Physiques Union (YPHU), Lalambung and FC Zalen registered convincing wins against their opponents as the 19th Winners' Cup 2014 (Men's) Football Tournament began today.
In the match played today at YPHU home ground at Artificial Turf ground, Khuman Lampak, the Lalambung side humbled United Brothers Sporting Association (UBSA) Mantak by a margin of 5 goals to one.
At the same time, FC Zalen mauled FC Moirang 5-0 in the match played at the latter's home ground today at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School ground.
Despite the convincing win, YPHU were fined Rs 5000 as four of the players were booked during the match at the Artificial Turf ground.

The match, that was delayed for about an hour against the scheduled timing due to late arrival of UBSA players, began competitively.
However, the YPHU players managed to slowly and gradually dominate the game.
Y Henba of YPHU opened the account for his side in the fifth minute.
The equaliser from the UBSA side came in the 10th minute when Ellen scored a brilliant goal.
The first half of the match ended with the scoreline 2-1 in favour of YPHU after L Abung scored another goal for the host team in the 18th minute.
The spirited fight exhibited by the UBSA side to find an equaliser failed to pay dividends throughout the game which ended with the scoreline 5-1 in favour of the host team.
L Abung, K Suraj and Ng Arnold netted a goal each in the 78th, 86th and 89th minute respectively.
S Odit, M Kabiraj, N Homendro and S Chaoba of the host team were booked for unsporting behaviour during the match.
Meanwhile, FC Moirang suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of FC Zalen at their home ground in another match played today at Moirang Higher Sec School ground.
With Seikhohao Tuboi's goal in the 4th minute, the visiting FC Zalen led the scoreline 1-0 by the end of the first half of their first away-match.
Moreover, K Gunil of the host team was sent off in the last minutes of the first half much to the disadvantage of the host Moirang side.
The visiting team found it easier to dominate the game in the second half.
A goal each for Zalen side by Hemin and Thomas Khup in the 56th and 68th minute and S Helun goals in the 46th and 71st minute helped the visiting team win the match 5-0 when the final whistle was blown.
Damsoter Tarang and Nelson of FC Zalen were booked for unsporting behaviour.
XI Star SU, Akampat will clash with SCL Chura-chandpur tomorrow at Artificial Turf ground at 1 pm.
