Ibobi opens Bhagyachandra Natl Festival of Classical Dance

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh inaugurated the 10th edition of the Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance 2014 Organised by the Department of Art & Culture at the Shree Shree Govindajee Temple complex, Kangla Fort here on Friday.
At the occasion, the Chief Minister said the Government of Manipur conceived the idea of holding a national festival of classical dance in the name of king Bhagyachandra of 18th century, and that the Bhagyachandra National Festival of Classical Dance started from the year 1989 .
He said, "We see Nata Sankirtana performance in our religious rituals which has become an indispensable part of our life" .

The Chief Minister said the people of Manipur also see Raas dance performances occasionally in the temples on specific dates and many cultural performances are also staged for various occasions in Manipur and outside including abroad.
Raas dance is now internationally acknowledged for its beauty, sanctity, gracefulness, devotion and transcendentalism, Ibobi said, adding, "We tend to slip our mind for the founder, conceiver, creator and designer of this art form" .
He said the festival is a truly homage and acknowledgement to the founder of this art Rajashree Bhagyachandra, adding this festival has been successfully organising since 1989 featuring many eminent dancers of the country and the state as well.
Ibobi said the festival will give an opportunity to the people of Manipur to witness various major dance forms like Manipuri, Odissi, Mohiniyattam, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Sattriya and Kathak.
At the opening day of the 3-day long festival at the Shri Shri Govindajee Temple, Kangla Fort, Manipuri was performed by RK Sabitrisana Devi and T Ronel Meitei while Odissi by Sujata Mohapatra and Mohiniyattam by Methil Devika.
