Imphal, November 07 2014 :
As decided recently by the State Government to regularise the service of contract Lecturers of Higher Secondary Schools appointed in 2009 and contract Lecturers of colleges, the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM), the Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC) and the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) have urged the State Government to regularise the service of contract teachers of hill schools appointed
in 2006 .
According to a joint memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, a good number of contract basis teachers have been appointed and engaged by the Directorate of Education (S) at a meagre remuneration of Rs 4000 per month under a certain MoU signed between the Government of Manipur and ATSUM.
After long, painful, sacrificial service of the contract basis teachers, the Directorate of Education (S) conducted physical verification accompanied by relevant documents in November 2011 and in the process 772 genuine contract basis teachers were found out as per the record.
Subsequently, the concerned recommended the higher authority for re-engagement of the said contract basis teachers.
However, no positive measures have been initiated till date.
It is injustice on the part of the Government to discriminate the said contract basis teachers.
The Government's attitude of hire and fire towards the long suffering contract basis teachers who have tirelessly sacrificed their careers to cater to the educational needs of the hills is indeed an act of exploitation and its needs immediate redressal, read the memorandum.
The three student bodies further appealed to the Government of Manipur to provide adequate number of teacher to survive Government schools in the hill districts of Manipur with effect from the 2015 academic year.
