Imphal, November 07 2014 :
The All Manipur Hills Districts Contracts Basis Teachers' Association (AMHDCBTA) has warned of launching intense stir along with students' bodies based in hills if the government does not regularize the service of all the contract basis teachers in hill districts by extending their service period, within November 15 .
Announcing this in a press meet at the conference hall of MBC Church at Chingmeirong, PA Epchan, convener of AMHDCBTA said that following agitation launched by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), around 1000 teachers were appointed on contract basis under Directorate of Education (S) in 2006 to meet the shortage of teachers in hill districts.
He pointed out that after the teachers were put in work with a meager monthly salary of Rs 4000 each; service extension of the teachers was done for four times as re-engagement up to 2008 but the teachers were kept in dark whether the service extension has been abolished or it is still valid.
Condemning the lackadaisical attitude of the government towards the plight of the contract basis teachers who have been maintaining their families with the much lower salaries they received, the convener urged the government to regularize the teachers by extending their service period within November 15 considering hardships being faced by the teachers.
Saying that the association would submit a memorandum to the government soon to highlight grievances of the teachers, he cautioned that it along with students' organizations based in hill districts will resort to series of intense agitation if the government fails to meet the demands put up.
Meanwhile, three Naga student bodies, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM), Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC) and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) have urged the Chief Minister on Friday to regularise the service of all the contract teachers of all the Government schools in the hill districts appointed in 2006, apart from providing adequate teachers to all the schools in the hills.
