World Vasectomy Day observed

Family Welfare Service and National Health Mission, Manipur jointly observed the World Vasectomy Day at the conference hall of Directorate of Family Welfare Service today.
Speaking at the occasion, Family Welfare Service Director Dr K Rajo said that the objective of observing the day is to spread awareness of vasectomy operation among the people.
He said that there is no complication and side effect of vasectomy operation.
Saying that people have a misconception regarding vasectomy due to lack of awareness, Dr Rajo said that this operation can be performed on any man irrespective of their age.
NHM Consultant Dr Ch Nabakanta said that vasectomy reduces Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) .
Saying that the effect of the operation is the absence of spermatozoa in the semen, Dr Nabakanta said that it is safe, convenient and acceptable to every man.
He cautioned that Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) must not be adopted as a family planning method.
