Car vandalised, driver beaten

A Maruti van which was carrying a sick person was vandalised by bandh supporters at Sora thereby inflicting injuries to the occupants apart from the driver getting thrashed.
The Yaithibi Loukon Land Owners' Association, Sora called 48 hours Imphal-Moreh highway bandh with effect from 6 pm of November 5 in protest against the Government's plan to construct a sports university at Yaithibi Loukon.
The patient and the injured attendants reached RIMS yesterday.
The sick person belongs to an interior village of Chandel district and he was brought up to Saivom in a Shaktiman truck.
At Saivom, they hired a Maruti van to take the patient to Imphal.
But they were attacked by bandh supporters at Sora on the way to Imphal.
Altogether four women, one child and one sick person were travelling in the van together with the driver.
All the occupants of the van sustained injuries when the van's window panes were smashed by bandh supporters.
The driver was also physically assaulted, informed a source.
