Thoubal, January 23 2023:
Chinggoi Lamlel Kanba Lup (CLKL) has drawn the State Government's attention on the growing establishment of factories at paddy fields in Keirok Constituency under Thoubal district.
Sorokhaibam Sanaton, secretary, CLKL spoke to media persons in this connection during a press conference held today at the public ground located in Kakmayai Mayai Leikai.
Addressing the gathering, Sorokhaibam Sanaton stated that while the State Government has been trying to safeguard agricultural lands with the implementation of the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014, many factories, namely saw mill, stone crusher, ply factory etc have cropped up in the paddy fields in and around Kakmayai, Nigel, Phanjabkhong, Chandrakhong, Leirongthel, Malom and Leirongthel Pitra under Thoubal district.
Elaborating on his statement, the CLKL secretary shared that the Organisation had appealed to the Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal to take up appropriate measures to safeguard the paddy fields in November 2021 .
"However, we did not receive any positive response from the Government", he said.
Further, he alleged that around eight factories have been established in the paddy fields surrounding the aforementioned villages and efforts are underway to set up a brand new Tile and Tile and Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) Block factory near Kakmayai village.
In view of such circumstances, he appealed to the Chief Minister to take up stringent steps to safeguard the paddy fields/agricultural lands of the region while cautioning of follow-up agitations in collaboration with local organisations if their demands remain unfulfilled.
