Imphal, July 22 2015 :
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal authority has made certain clarifications regarding the report carried in this paper under the headline 'Appointment anomalies at RIMS?' .
In a statement, the RIMS authority clarified that individuals were appointed as multipurpose workers in RIMS, Imphal to meet the critical requirements of the institute based on the decisions already taken by the competent authorities and there is no hidden agenda involved in engaging the manpower as alleged by certain sections who are perhaps not aware of the ground reality the authority is confronted with today.
The RIMS authority said that the engagement of manpower in RIMS was approved by the Standing Finance Committee which was chaired by Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India in its meeting held on November 12, 2013 .
The need for engaging more manpower in the Central Sterilisation Service Dept (CSSD) was felt for a long time and a meeting of senior officials of the institute was held on June 5, 2015 to provide more manpower in the CSSD to ensure that the Dept is able to run in three shifts per day and to cope with the ever increasing demands of the operation theatres of RIMS, the authority said.
The deficiencies of manpower in Dental College, RIMS were highlighted by different inspectors during different inspections carried out on different dates.
Manpower shortage is still felt in the college.
Due to acute shortage of living space for students, the newly constructed Interns Hostel has been recently allotted to students to overcome the difficulty.
And there is the gradual need to appoint chowkidars and sweepers for this hostel, it said.
The circumstances therefore compelled the RIMS authority to engage manpower, the RIMS authority clarified.
At this stage, the institute has only one option that is, to engage the required manpower based on the recommendation of the Selection Committee comprising of external member from the Health Dept, Govt of Manipur in its meeting held in Dec 2014, which recommended 46 individuals for engagement as MPW.
This recommendation of the selection committee was approved by the competent authority and made public by displaying it on the notice board, the RIMS authority clarified.
In fact, RIMS will need to engage more manpower in the years to come and increase intake capacity of PGs with the opening of College of Nursing, Dental College, it said.
