Imphal, July 22 2015 :
Naga People's Front (NPF) has threatened various forms of agitation including blockades against the Government's failure to take up initiatives for the formation of the district councils.
This was disclosed by NPF State Unit President Awangbou Newmai during a press conference held in Imphal on Wednesday.
The ADC elections were held on June 10 and yet the Government is not taking up any concrete steps to form the council even after one month of the declaration of the election results, he said.
This is a deplorable development in a democratic country.
He set a deadline for the formation of the councils on July 25 failing which various agitations will be launched from July 27 .
Some elected members had been sworn in while many others are yet to do so, Newmai said.
He pointed out that the oath taking function should be held in the respective districts and it will not be proper to do so in Imphal.
If there is a threat perception, security should be provided.
The weak kneed government ought to resign, he opined.
District councils are self government institutions in the hills and taking the development into consideration, the Government should have expedited the matter.
There should be a balanced development in the hills and the valley.
He further said that NPF supports the demand for the implementation of the ILPS in Manipur.
The government should introduce an effective Bill, said the NPF Manipur Unit President.
The NPF MLAs had staged a walk out in the Assembly in protest against the earlier Bill.
