Steering off stir on Jul 24

Pledging support to the ongoing pro-ILPS movement spearheaded by JCILPS, 12 transporters' bodies have resolved to stage a State-wide steering-off stir on July 24 .
This was announced by the leaders of these transporters' bodies during a sit-in-protest organised at the community hall of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai today.
They told reporters that the transporters would extend support to all the movements initiated by JCILPS and JAC constituted against the death of Sapam Robinhood.
They also strongly condemned police action against protesters demanding ILPS that resulted in the death of Robinhood, a Class XI (Science) student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy.
The transporters' stir would also demand punishment to police personnel responsible for Robinhood's death and early resumption of classes in educational institutes.
Informing that the stir would cover all the vehicles which transport FCI rice, oil tankers, other commercial vehicles and all forms of passenger vehicles plying on the National Highways and other roads, they said that no vehicle would load or unload goods on the day.
The transporters also urged the civil society organisations and people of the State to extend support and co-operation to transporters' bodies by assisting them in the strict enforcement of the stir at different localities across the State.
The bodies which took part in today's sit-in-protest were Manipur Truck Owners Welfare Association, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union, Bus Owners Union of Manipur, Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Bus Owners and Welfare Union, Indo-Myanmar Road Self Employed Van Association, Moreh Tata Sumo, Jeep Welfare Association, All Manipur Inter-State Wingers and Cruisers Drivers Welfare Union, Manipur Inter-State Taxi Workers Association, Joint Tiddim Road Bus Owners' Association, Tiddim Road Educated Self-Employed Transport Co-operative Society Ltd, All Manipur 407 and 709 Truck Drivers Union and JAC Imphal-Moreh Tata Sumo, DI, Van Association.
