State pays rich tributes to Maharaja Gambhir Sing

The 182nd death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh was observed widely today.
The Department of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur organised the 182nd death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh at his memo-rial complex located at Langthabal (Canchipur).
Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, MLA Karam Thamarjit and MLA Karam Shyam attended the programme.
Paying of floral tributes to the portraits of Maharaja Gambhir Singh and Narsingh marked the observance .
At the same time, United
Peoples' Front (UPF), Manipur observed the day as National Reconsolidation Day.
The front organised a pub-lic function to commemorate the death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh today at Pishum Lampak Chinga Mathak.
The function was preceded by a public rally starting from the Gambhir Singh Complex,
function.
Dr Y Sushila, Director, Art and Culture, S Ratan-kumar, president UPF, Thangkhosei Haokip, president KIM, R Chandra Haomei, VP, ZU (AMN) and Md Abdul Hakim Shah, Associate Prof, GP Women's College attended the programme as the chief guest, president
and guests of honour respec-tively.
Retd Professor of MU, Naorem Joykumar and Dr Thathang Vaiphei, Asst Prof, CSSEIP, MU were the re-source persons.
Amongst others, the programme was attended by representatives of various civil society and student organisations of the State.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Y Sushila exuded confidence that the observance of the day would go a long way in paving way for peaceful coexistence of different ethnic communities of the State.
Prof N Joykumar underlined that unity and integrity of the State cannot be achieved through mere rhetoric.
As such, love among different ethnic communities of the State
should be reflected in one's action.
It is now the time for different ethnic groups of the State
to stand united against divisive force and renew the relations,
he said.
Better economic condition can act as a centripetal force
towards unity and integrity of the different communities of the
State, Prof Joykumar opined.
He further said that people of the State should stand united
against any divisive elements or segregationist agenda.
It is
also now time to show that unity is strength.
All sections of the society have equal roles for the preservation
and protection of Manipur's integrity, he added.
Manipur People's Party (MPP) observed the 182nd death
anniversary of Meidingu Chinglen Nongdrenkhomba popularly
known as Maharaj Gambhir Singh at the conference hall
of the party office today.
Party president N Sovakiran and chairman of the party's
legal cell, Y Priyokumar attended the programme.
Speaking at the function, N Sovakiran called upon the
people of Manipur to unite so that Manipur will not be devastated
again.
He also pledged not to part even an inch of
State's land.
He also said that Maharaj Gambhir Singh led an
Army known as Manipur Levy in 1825 from Cachar and
expelled the Burmese army who had occupied Manipur for
seven years during which the Burmese had completely devastated
Manipuri society, according to a press release.
