POL transporters poised to launch stir from July 31

Imphal, July 29 2026: Transporters of petroleum products have decided to launch a steering-wheel-down (cease work) protest from July 31 after their meeting with the Govern-ment over collection of illegal taxes along the Imphal-Jiribam Road (National Highway-37) and other issues ended inconclusively.

Speaking to The Sangai Express after the meeting, All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Association (AMPPTA) presi- dent A Tamphayai said that the meeting held this evening at the Chief Minister's Office at Mantripukhri was chaired by Chief Minister Y Khemchand.

According to him, the Government informed them that it would formulate a law to take action against the illegal collection of taxes on highways.

He also said that the Government requested them not to proceed with the protest.

Saying that they, however, would not change their decision and would go ahead with the steering-wheel-down protest, he added that transporters of petroleum products and LPG, the IOCL Oil Depot at Malom, the gas bottling plant at Sekmai, and petrol pumps will cease operations.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Transport Commissioner, Director of CAF&PD, IOCL officials, and senior officers of the police and CRPF .

The transporters' side was represented by members of All Manipur Petroleum Product Transporter Association, All Manipur Bharat Petroleum Dealers Cum Transporters Association, All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association, HPCL Dealers Association, Manipur, NAYARA Dealers Association Manipur, All Manipur Petroleum Product Drivers Association, All Manipur Petroleum Product Drivers Association (LPG) and All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association.
