Andro market too damaged

Reports of damages and destruction caused by the recent earthquake continue to pour in days after the tremor.

Imphal East district have reportedly developed cracks at the impact of the pre-dawn tremor of January 4.Andro Assem-bly Constituency MLA Th Shyamkumar who examined the damages today said the damages suffered by the market complex could be called a natural calamity had the private houses and buildings of the Ministers and contractors who were responsible
for the construction of the building bore similar brunt from
the tremor.
The cracks and toppled portions of pillars show nonmainetnance
of proper quality at the time of construction, the
MLA stated.
Question the carelessness shown in the construction of
public properties, the MLA urged the State Government to
award suitable punishments to those responsible for the construction
of the market complex.
The MLA further urged contractors and other concerned to
be more honest and cautious while constructing public properties.
Andro market complex was constructed between 2004 and
2005 by PDA, he added.
The MLA also visited schools and institutions under Andro
A/C today.
Most school buildings of the area have withstood
the powerful tremor of the January 4.
In the meantime, Voluntary Organisation for Social
Upliftment (VOSU), Sanjenbam has sought the attention of
the State Government towards the damages suffered in the
recent earthquake at Kha-Sanjenbam area.
A statement issued by VOSU said many houses, school
buildings and other structures were damaged in the tremor.
