Imphal, January 09 2016 :
The Supreme Court of India on
Jan 5 upheld the Manipur High
Court's order cancelling the
appointment of three regular
Principals of Oriental College,
Lilong Haoreibi College and
Manipur College, according to
a statement issued by
Federation of Govt College
Teachers' Associations
(FEGOCTA), Manipur.
A division bench of
Manipur High Court consisting
of Chief Justice and
Justice N Kotiswar on Oct 5
last year had cancelled the
appointment of the three Principals
on ground that their
appointments are 'not valid' as
the three lack the 'essential
qualification of experience of
research guidance' as required
by UGC Regulations.
FEGOCTA has challenged
the appointment of the three
Principals at Manipur High
Court and Supreme Court of
India.
Advocate RK Deepak
Singh represented the respondents
in the Supreme
Court.
At the same time,
FEGOCTA has appealed to
the Govt of Manipur to execute
the Supreme Court and
Manipur High Court orders
in this regard at the earliest.
The federation has also
reiterated its demand for constitution
of Manipur Higher
Education Service and an effective
State Higher
Secondary Education Council
in order to prevent distortion
of UGC Regulations and misadventure
by the Govt
officials in higher education
in future.
