Imphal, January 09 2016 :
Crushing defeats sufferedby BJP in local body elections of many big States ofthe country were clear testimony ofpeople's distrust for the communal party, asserted Chief Minister 0 Ibobi.
As a part of its campaign for the local body election scheduled for January 11, Congress party held a political convention at Kakching Khunou community hall today.
The political convention was participated by Congress candidates as well as other candidates supported by the party who are contesting in Sugnu and Kakching Khunou Municipal Councils.
Stating that BJP has started losing elections in different elections of India, Ibobi asserted that BJP's position in Manipur would be known after the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat election.
People of the country do not want to entrust power to a communal political party and this was testified by the crushing defeats suffered by BJP in local body elections of many big States.
BJP is a party which cannot correlate its actions and words.
The party does not
deserve people's trust.
At the same time, there is a need to strengthen Congress party which is a staunch cham- pion of secularism.
It is the Congress party which has been safeguarding the in-tegrity of both India and Manipur.
In the run up to the election, many people approached Congress party but they were not admitted as almost all of them are accustomed to party hoping, Ibobi asserted.
Preaching harmony and peaceful co-existence among all the communities of Manipur, Ibobi maintained that all the people should live as one leaving aside differences in terms of faiths/religions and topography.
The Congress party be-lieves in the fact that the bond of fraternity shared by different communities of Manipur can be further strengthened when there is uniform development, stated the Chief Minister.
MLA K Ranjit's deep con-cern for development of Kakching Khunou was dem-onstrated without any room for doubt when he worked tirelessly towards alleviating many areas to the status of Municipal Councils which were earlier categorised as small towns.
People need not be dis-heartened because Ranjit is no longer a Minister.
He could not be given any ministerial portfolio as the total number of Ministers is limited to just 12.
He then appealed to all the people to trust Congress party and elect all Congress candi-dates.
K Ranjit claimed that many major issues of the State have been resolved
when Congress party was/is in power and the party is
working relentlessly to resolve many other key issues.
Claiming that BJP is not suitable to the soil of the North
East region, particularly Manipur, Ranjit stated that BJP's
unpopularity would be known in the Manipur Legislative
Assembly election which is due next year.
Asserting that only Congress party can safeguard the integrity
of Manipur, Ranjit appealed to all the people to support
the party.
Many Cabinet Ministers and Congress MLAs were also
present at the political convention.
