Imphal, July 16 2011:
BJP leaders have accused Congress Governments ruling at the Centre and the State of turning politics into profit-earning business enterprises.
This was stated at a pre-poll meeting of BJP leaders, village chiefs of Tengnoupal AC, social leaders and BJP sympathisers held today at H Kotlenphai village.
The meeting unanimously agreed on fielding Yanglet Haokip as BJP candidate from 42 Tengnoupal AC in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, and also to disallow any one coming from outside the constituency to contest elections in Tengnoupal AC.
Speaking at the meeting BJP North East in-charge P Chandrasekhar Rao asserted that despite prolonged rule by Congress in most of the North Eastern State including Manipur, the region is lagging far behind other parts of the country in terms of development.
There is little or no development in the region, he chipped in.
There is no development in Manipur because the huge amounts of fund sanctioned by the Government of India have been misappropriated or looted by the highly corrupt Congress-led Government.
He further accused the Congress Government of turning politics into business enterprises.
Observing that a magnificent market, a large district hospital and a mini Secretariat have been constructed at Thoubal which is the home district of the Chief Minister, Chandrasekhar Rao questioned as to why not such a single institution/office has been constructed in Chandel district.
The multiple problems of health care facilities, potable water, road and communication infrastructure, power shortage and failure of drainage system are all results of entrusting political power to Congress party for a prolonged period, he asserted.
BJP State unit president Sh Shantikumar claimed that the UPA Government rocked by multiple scandals of corruption and misgovernance is likely to fall down in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
In case the Congress-led Government falls apart and NDA returns to power, there would be drastic change in the political scenario of Manipur.
As such, it would be most judicious to elect BJP candidates in the Assembly elections of Manipur, he said.
Saying that Yanglet Haokip was not given the opportunity to contest Assembly elections in the previous terms, Shantikumar proposed that Yanglet be given a chance this time and send him to the State Assembly.
If there is any objection to Yanglet's candidature this time, people should fight back in befitting manner.
Vice-president S Ibohal and Prof Tiken clarified that BJP is neither anti-Christian nor anti-Muslim.
BJP is in power in many States where tribals are predominant, they claimed.
To BJP, there is no difference between communities or religions.
Saying that Yanglet could not win the election on two occasions due to influence by external elements, they appealed to the people to support Yanglet this time.
Yanglet Haokip said that he was all prepared to contest the forthcoming elections under BJP ticket.
