Imphal, July 16 2011:
Litigants, who sought details by invoking Right to Information Act with regard to MGNREGS work initiated in Charangpat area of Thoubal district under the local Gram Panchayat, have alleged inaction by the Public Information Officer (PIO), Thoubal Block.
Speaking to some news-persons today, one of the petitioners namely Lourembam Premkumar Singh of Charangpat said he along with Laisom Samanda of Charangpat Maning Leikai, Thiyam Imo of Charangpat Mayai Leikai and Longjam Pratap of charangpat Maning Leikai filed a joint complaint to the PIO on June 14, 2011 seeking relevant information on the scheme work.
Even after lapse of 15 days, within which RTI entails that information sought should be furnished to the petitioner/s concerned, there is no such compliance with the formal intimation of the four individuals, said Premkumar while cautioning that keeping under wrap, details of the MGNREGS work is likely to witness agitation by the locals.
It is informed that the petition sought information with regard to number of job card holders under Charangpat Gram Panchayat; number of job cards allocated; total amount sanctioned/released for wages in 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 period; details of job card holders such as name, address and date of distribution; and whether individuals listed in the record book have all been issued job cards.
Expressing that the flagship programme of the UPA and SPF Governments for guaranteeing atleast 100 working days in a year has been reduced to nought in Charangpat, the petitioners called upon the locals to insist for provision of job cards to ensure they get the benefits.
